McGraw-Hill Professional has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Editor , based inNew York City. The Senior Editor is responsible for acquiring, developing, and publishing a minimum of 18 books annually in the consumer group of McGraw-Hill Professional. Target publishing areas include Human Resources and Business Self-Help. Essential accountabilities include the following: Sign a minimum of 18 author contracts annually Meet an annual frontlist sales goal of $1.5 million Prepare a profit and loss statement on each project and ensure that the project meets financial hurdles. Work closely with authors to develop and refine book positioning. Successfully negotiate author contracts, including advances, royalty rates, licensing, etc., while minimizing financial exposure/risk. Work with authors to finalize manuscripts and ensure that projects adhere to the high standards of the division and satisfy the requirements set for the project when it was acquired. Work closely with Marketing and Sales departments to ensure that books meet the needs of the target markets. Present books to the McGraw-Hill editorial board, at sales meetings, etc. Stay abreast of Business self-help and HR trends and issues in order to know the needs of the targeted readership and signing areas. Bachelors degree in a related discipline Minimum of eight years of related acquisitions experience Strong knowledge of the publishing and acquisitions process Knowledge of the Business, HR, and self-help book markets Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to communicate with top experts in the field Ability to successfully negotiate author contracts Ability to develop manuscripts, to include, making decisions on the content, direction, writing abilities of authors, etc.
