Description:DescriptionThe primary focus of the Acquisition Editor is: acquisitions (signings), development (value creation), sales/marketing (channel sell through) and overall list management (growth and profitability). Product Acquisition # Effectively identify, track and sign the best and brightest authorships. # Develop a strong intuition for market trends and technological innovation. # Create useful tools to aid key signing targets. Product Development # Ensures all titles possess elements of differentiation leading to distinct competitive advantages. # Takes responsibility for the publication plan for each project with a critical emphasis on content, support package, technology, and budget management. # Works with marketing to develop a creative marketing plan encompassing product positioning, marketing theme, selling strategy, channel sell through, pricing, promotion and market research. # Makes sales presentations when appropriate and assists in field staff training. List Management # Responsible for creating overall list strategy and vision. # Accountable for list growth while managing revenues, costs and overall list profitability. Budgeting Responsibility # Ensures titles are developed within allocated plate budgets. # Utilizes IPS as the primary project-funding tool. Human Relation Skills # Embraces the team environment. # Possess excellent written and oral communication skills. # Completes comprehensive, accurate and timely reports. # Must be effective at managing time while traveling for author meetings and business conferences. Requirements Baccalaureate degree in related field required; advanced degree preferred. Market knowledge for assigned product discipline desirable. Ability to lead by example and work effectively within a team-based environment. Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills. Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining quality and adhering to deadlines. Able to effectively utilize various technology tools such as word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. Associate Acquisitions Editor: 2+ years experience in publishing industry strongly preferred. 1-2 years of direct sales experience required, preferably in the publishing industry. Acquisitions Editor: At least 3-5 years experience in publishing industry required. Editorial, publishing sales and/or marketing experience required. Management experience preferred. Senior Acquisitions Editor: 5-10 years experience in publishing industry required. A proven track record in the editorial field required. Sales and/or marketing experience in the publishing industry and management experience strongly preferred. Executive Editor: 10+ years experience in publishing industry required. A proven track record in editorial required. Sales and/or marketing experience in the publishing industry strongly preferred. Management experience required. EQUIPMENT: PC, AS/400, JDE, copy machine, telephone, calculator, fax machine.
